R&M Bosch System Details

The Bosch system

Reliable, performance-oriented and innovative – these are the standards to which we hold our E-Bikes, as well as all components and especially the drive system. That’s why all Riese & Müller E-Bikes are equipped with the industry-leading Bosch drive system.

The motor

All Riese & Müller E-Bikes and E-Cargo bikes are equipped with Bosch motors from the Active and Performance lines. The drives impress with absolutely no need for maintenance and are among the most reliable on the market. With pedal assistance of up to 32 km/h.

With the tremendous driving force of the Bosch motors, you can conquer any terrain and any mountain. Its aesthetically pleasing integration into the crank bearing ensures plenty of ground clearance, a low centre of gravity, directional stability and the direct transfer of force to the back wheel via a chain or belt. The riding experience provided by the mid-mounted motor most closely approximates the sensation of riding a normal bike. All Riese & Müller E-Bikes are Pedelecs. The driving force is controlled using the pedals, not via an accelerator handle as on a motorbike. The harder you push on the pedals, the more the electric drive supports you. When you stop pedalling, the motor stops, and you continue to roll – just like on any normal bike.

A pushing and starting aid fitted as standard helps your E-Bike up slopes even when you’re not sitting in the saddle. The button used to make your bike push itself at 6 km/h is located on the external control unit. The maintenance-free motors have an electronic control unit with an ultra-modern 32-bit processor and sensors for power, pedal rate and speed. Thanks to 1,000 sensor measurements per second, its coordination is superb. The higher the power, the higher the torque and therefore the faster the acceleration. The maximum speed up to which your motor provides assistance is 32 km/h. The combination of the motors with a derailleur gear enables a greater degree of efficiency than the combination with a hub gear.

The Bosch Performance Line CX motor (Gen4)

The fourth generation of the Performance CX is the most powerful E-Bike motor to have been produced by Bosch. It sets totally new benchmarks with up to 340% pedal assistance, a maximum torque of 85 Nm, extremely sporty start-up characteristics and pedalling rate assistance of up to 120 rpm. Compared to its predecessor model, it cannot fail to win you over with its greater dynamics, even lower pedal resistance and 25 % lower weight. At the same time, it is almost half the size, providing for ultra-aesthetic and unobtrusive integration.

The Bosch Cargo Line Cruise motor (Gen4)

The latest generation of Bosch Cargo Line Cruise motor is the most powerful E-Bike motor ever to have been produced by Bosch with programming optimised for E-Cargo bikes. It sets totally new benchmarks with up to 400% pedal assistance, a maximum torque of 85 Nm, extremely powerful start-up characteristics and pedalling rate assistance of up to 120 rpm. It cannot fail to impress with its excellent dynamics, ultra-low pedal resistance, reduced weight and small dimensions, which provides for ultra-aesthetic and unobtrusive integration.

The batteries

Reliable Bosch lithium-ion batteries with a 500 or 625 Wh Wh energy reserve provide the power for our E-Bikes. With DualBattery Technology – the use of two batteries in parallel – we achieve a top capacity of 1,250 Wh. Depending on the E-Bike model, we install frame batteries, rack type batteries or ultra-modern, fully frame-integrated Bosch PowerTube batteries. This approach sets standards for design and functionality.

Little power packages for big ambitions.

Whether you use one or two batteries on your E-Bike significantly influences your range and achievable climb in altitude. There are also many other decisive factors, such as the set pedal assistance, riding speed or outside temperature. When it’s stop-and-go in the city, the range is shorter than with a constant journey over a longer distance – comparable with the fuel consumption of a car. If you find while you’re on a ride that your battery’s residual power is not going to be enough to complete your journey, you can reduce the level of assistance and thus still reach your destination comfortably.

Recharge, ride, rejoice. Again and again.

The batteries are charged directly on the E-Bike or, once removed, at any standard 110/220 V wall socket. There is no need to run the battery all the way down, because it can be charged in its partially charged state without any “memory effect”. The lifespan is 800 – 1,000 charging cycles. Thanks to the short charging times, the battery can be topped up well even during a lunch break, for example. A complete charge cycle with the included Bosch standard charger takes just 4,5 hours. With DualBattery Technology, both batteries can be charged individually with the charger or at the same time directly on the E-Bike.

Always in top form.

At Riese & Müller, we look for a perfect battery, matched in function and form, for every E-Bike we develop. That’s why we fit one – or more – of three high-performance Bosch batteries: the frame battery, the rack type battery or the ultra-modern PowerTube battery.

We use the traditional frame battery in some of our E-Bike models. This battery has also proved itself with E-Cargo bikes.

The PowerTube is the latest Bosch battery. Fully integrated into the frame it is completely invisible. We are proud to be one of the first E-Bike manufacturers to equip many of our bikes with two fully integrated PowerTubes. Both batteries can be removed with the same key and they pop a few centimetres out of the frame when it is opened for ease of removal.

Either two Bosch PowerTubes, one PowerTube and an additional frame battery or a combination of PowerTube and rack type battery are used in our E-Bike models with DualBattery Technology.

The displays

The control centres of Riese & Müller E-Bikes are their Bosch displays and systems. Besides four degrees of pedal assistance, you can choose from many other functions, depending on the model. The system is operated either directly on the display or via an external control unit. You can conveniently switch on the pushing aid using the remote control located on the handlebar.

Bosch Intuvia Display

The Intuvia Display gives you full control and a perfect overview at all times. It provides information about battery status, range, daily mileage, total mileage, ride time, current motor power, time, speed and average speed – clearly legible in any level of sunlight. On our automatic E-Bike models, the automatic version of the display also offers an option for controlling the pedal frequency. It is operated via a remote control conveniently mounted on the handlebar grip.

Bosch Purion Display

With the Purion, you are guaranteed to never lose sight of things. Its sleek design combines all relevant information on one small, easy-to-read display. While your hands stay firmly on the handlebars, you can navigate through all the functions with your thumb. The Purion is highly efficient, lightweight and trimmed down to the essentials.

Bosch SmartphoneHub

The Bosch SmartphoneHub is the most intelligent communication system for E-Bike riders. The free app turns your smartphone into a display which bundles all functions together: navigation with live weather, fitness data and much more. Other standard smartphone functions such as calls and music playback can be controlled and used directly in the app while riding. It is convenient and reliable to operate using buttons on the handlebar or voice control. Your smartphone is automatically charged during your trip. But it also works without a mobile phone: in that case an integrated display shows key riding data. The Quick Start Guide will get you up and running with the system in no time at all while regular wireless updates will keep you up to date.
